A story on dating and marriage after the age of 35.
Remembered the days I was a bitter single lady. I still am at heart, especially when I see how beautiful my friends are and when I realize how many guys are missing out on them!
My solace came from the place where single women usually find it: my other single friends. We would gather on weekend nights, swapping funny and tragic stories of our dismal dating lives, reassuring one another of our collective beauty, intelligence and kindness, marveling at the idiocy of men who failed to see this in our friends.
This paragraph left me thankful.
Did we find love because we grew up, got real and worked through our issues? No. We just found the right guys. We found men who love us even though we’re still cranky and neurotic, haven’t got our careers together, and sometimes talk too loudly, drink too much and swear at the television news. We have gray hairs and unfashionable clothes and bad attitudes. They love us, anyway.
A must read for both daddies and daughters.
My favorites are:
Always be there. Quality time doesn’t happen without quantity time. Hang out together for no other reason than just to be in each other’s presence. Be genuinely interested in the things that interest her. She needs her dad to be involved in her life at every stage. Don’t just sit idly by while she add years to her… add life to her years.
Love her mom. Treat her mother with respect, honor, and a big heaping spoonful of public displays of affection. When she grows up, the odds are good she’ll fall in love with and marry someone who treats her much like you treated her mother. Good or bad, that’s just the way it is. I’d prefer good.
Save the day. She’ll grow up looking for a hero. It might as well be you. She’ll need you to come through for her over and over again throughout her life. Rise to the occasion. Red cape and blue tights optional.
Dance with her. Start when she’s a little girl or even when she’s a baby. Don’t wait ‘til her wedding day.
Tell her she’s beautiful. Say it over and over again. Someday an animated movie or “beauty” magazine will try to convince her otherwise.
She’s as smart as any boy. Make sure she knows that.
If her mom enrolls her in swim lessons, make sure you get in the pool too. Don’t be intimidated if there are no other dads there. It’s their loss.
Never thought I’d be such a girl gushing over pretty flowers from a boyfriend and always looking forward to what each note has to say. *sigh* ♥ (Taken with instagram)
A little critter drew this on my iPad cover. Could not make out if I am pleased or mad haha. (Taken with instagram)
